Our Rotary Club was pleased to welcome Sandy Silver, a docent with the Melbourne Beach Old Town Hall History Center, as our guest speaker on June 17th.

Sandy, a Melbourne Beach resident for over 15 years, shared her passion for local history and offered a fascinating look at the deep roots of our area.

The Old Town History Center, located at 2373 Oak Street in Melbourne Beach, is housed in a building that dates back to 1908. It is open to the public on Saturdays from 11 AM to 3 PM. More information can be found on the Town of Melbourne Beach website.

Sandy’s presentation traced the origins of Melbourne Beach from as far back as 600 million years ago, illustrating how Florida itself began forming roughly 12,000 years ago. She explained that while the land has been waiting patiently, the town of Melbourne Beach is quite young—its first home wasn’t built until the late 1890s.

Everyone enjoyed Sandy’s engaging summary of both Florida’s and Melbourne Beach’s rich histories.
